Places where I lived
 |
On the map you can see all the cities where I lived so far in Europe. I know that British and Irish people seem to think that Europe is only the mainland, but that's rubbish in terms of geography and also politics. (However, when it comes to their culture it doesn't seem to be that wrong. The countries are on islands after all.)
Out of sheer coincidence I managed to live almost all the time on very similar latitudes, in two capital cities and one city that was seat of government: London and Dublin are the respective capitals of their countries and Den Haag is the place where the Dutch government is located (Amsterdam is the capital). |
European countries that I've visited (so far!)
In the 70s and 80s I visited quite a number of Western European countries on holidays and later on I added Portugal, Sweden and Crete (Greece) to the list. The only Eastern European places I saw before the cold war was over were the German Democratic Republic and Hungary.
On the map at the right you can see countries that I've seen quite often in a darker yellow, and other places that I've been to only once or just a few times in light yellow. I've never managed to visit mainland Spain or Greece, but I've been to one of their islands each. I've also been to Madeira (a Portuguese island), which is not on this map.

If you are interested you can see photos of some of my more recent trips here.
(Please don't scold me about the small missing places like Liechtenstein and Vatican City or country names that are too short. Russia also looks odd on this map as the European part of it is missing. And yes, I know that the Canary Island geographically belong to Africa. If you want to see better maps, simply take a look at the world wide web. www.worldatlas.com or www.sitesatlas.com are a good start.)
Other places that I've visited
Other places I've seen are these:
Places that I want to see
Ideally I'd like to see more or less all countries on our world, but that will be impossible unless I win in a lottery and there are no more wars. Calculate the chances for yourself! Anyways, "must sees" for me are (in no particular order):
- Canada
- Thailand (I am dreaming of a Thai cookery course)
- Australia
- Spain
- Greece
- Japan
- Slovenia
- China
- Kenya
- Singapore
- Antarctica
- Estonia
- Russia
- Norway
- Finland
- Iceland
- Brazil
- India
- Czech Republic
- Poland
I am sure I could come up with more, but this is already quite an extensive list and life is simply too short!
If it would be possible (or rather affordable) I'd also go out into space or to our moon :)
